POSITION DESCRIPTION:   This position is responsible for all copy editing for print and online publications in addition to government and feature reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Seek out hyper-local news on a daily basis, as well as planning and executing impactful, enterprise stories that will draw interest in our area
    Bolster coverage by handling day-to-day assigning and working with reporters to produce high-quality community news content and photos that are relevant to our reader base
    Work with staff to edit stories and make them relevant and important tour reader base with attention to detail
    A multi-tasker with the skills to report and write, is proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and other news design programs
    Perform other duties as requested by management.

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications
    Accomplished editor or an experienced and talented reporter
    Experience in using digital Content Management Systems (CMS)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of supervisory and management skills.
    The capacity to lead a strong, diverse staff in an environment where change is routine.
    The ability to devise a set of goals for the department and communicate the goals to the staff.
    Experience in managing digital news and platforms and setting strategic direction.
    Excellent collaboration, organization and communications skills.
    Must be able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines as well as multitask.

Physical Requirement: Close eye work, sitting, walking, standing, reaching lifting 15-30 pounds (per safety policy).
