Post and Courier
This position assists with the posting of daily obituary notices in The Post and Courier and online. The Obituary Clerk is responsible for and not limited to assisting the funeral homes and family members through the process of placing a notice. In addition to the above, this position will also be responsible for handling the day-to-day activities of the department by performing clerical functions such as processing notices, proofing, record keeping, correspondence with funeral homes and families, taking payments, account billing communication, and other clerical and administrative functions.
Provide assistance to funeral homes and family members.
Order notices and submit copy timely and accurately for publication in print and online.
Answer client phone, fax and email inquiries.
Assist with rate, billing disputes, notice insertion and other client questions or concerns in a pro-active, positive manner.
Complete paperwork, such as client information for account set up, data for client profiles and adjustments.
Review rates and bills as needed.
Have a thorough understanding of procedures to schedule notices.
Attend training sessions as requested to obtain essential job information.
Keep all team members updated on changes in product or process.
Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:
College degree preferred; equivalent experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
Must have a proven track record of excellence in support, strong persuasive oral and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in order to handle a variety of duties. Strong organizational and time management skills required.
Must have proven track record of accuracy to detail and timeliness.
Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and customer service skills also required.
Ability to work Obituary office hours— Monday-Sunday, l-8pm to include holidays
Dependable transportation and a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
