POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The assistant editor is responsible for managing and creating content for Content That Works’ variety of offerings for customers. This includes, but is not limited to, syndicated content, online content and native advertising pieces for newspaper clients. The assistant editor supervises and coordinates projects including assigning stories to freelance writers, editing stories and creating layout plans for publications. The assistant editor is required to meet deadlines and follow-up with freelancers, native advertising partners and other stakeholders to assure work is completed on time for products. The assistant editor is a key part of the team and will also help generate ideas for new products and service lines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise production of assigned products.
    Plan content for products in conjunction with editorial team.
    Communicate professionally with native advertising partners and clients.
    Assign stories to freelance writers.
    Edit stories from freelance writers.
    Write content as needed for products.
    Collect images and write captions for products.
    Plan layout or products and publications.
    Proof publications and products before delivery to customers.
    Strictly adhere to all deadlines, including writing assignments and publication deadlines.
    Occasional design work may be required.
    Communicate frequently with team members and supervisor about the status of assignments and products.
    Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

  • Must be an accomplished editor with strong journalism skills.
    Background of several years of editing and managing writers and an ability to function in a stressful, fast-moving and ever-changing environment.
    Familiarity with Basecamp or other project management or CRM software preferred.
    Prior experience in native advertising or content-based marketing is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of digital and print media, including but not limited to social media and data gathering and visualization.
    Effective communication skills for working with remote freelancers.
    Ability to maintain positive business relationships with native advertising partners and clients
    Ability to lead, supervise and execute a team that aims to present content digitally first while maintaining quality in our printed products.
    Independent thinker and worker able to dream up new products and ways to working.

Physical Requirement: Work will in an office environment.  Close eye work, continuous sitting, constant walking, standing, light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds (per safety policy).
