POSITION DESCRIPTION:   The Events Manager develops, plans and executes multiple majors events each year to engage new audiences and generate event revenue for the organization.  The Events Manager is responsible for generating extensive revenue from Free Times events, through sponsorships, ticket sales, ad sales, etc.  Sponsorships are to be sold by the Events Manager as well as the advertising sales executives.  This position also leads all efforts related to contests, sweepstakes, audience development and other special projects as introduced by the Publisher.  This position should be very engaged in the business and social scene in Columbia and represent Free Times at various community events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage multiple events per year from the event concept phase through revenue generation, expense management, promotional efforts and event execution
    Lead and manage the company’s community relations efforts, including negotiating trade sponsorships and partnerships
    Develop and execute additional business-to-consumer and business-to-business special events that achieve revenue, profit and marketing goals
    Coordinate and sell sponsorships for consumer-facing contests, sweepstakes, and other engagement activities, both individually and in partnership with advertising sales executives
    Partner with advertising sales team to prospect, propose and sell sponsorships for multiple events
    Full event management of projects including planning, communication, and maintenance of project timelines
    Liaising with clients and all parties involved ensuring effective communication across the board
    Overseeing on-site set-up, dismantle, and management of suppliers involved
    Building client relationships and helping to develop new business
    Preparation of proposals and the management and delivery of client pitches
    Perform other duties as requested by management.

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or a related field
    Sales experience preferred
    3 – 5 years professional work experience in marketing and event roles with a track record that demonstrates increasing responsibilities and results.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in managing projects from brief to delivery
    Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities
    Proven ability to work collaboratively, take direction and input to develop effective and engaging events that will achieve the company’s goals.
    Strong team player with a great attitude – a “people person” with an engaging demeanor
    Proactive and able to take ownership of the project
    Exceptional attention to detail
    Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate budgets and effectively manage expenses
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with and present to all levels and functions of the organization.
    An engaging, outgoing personal style–enjoy working independently as well as on a team.

Physical Requirement: Close eye work, continuous sitting, constant walking, standing, light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds (per safety policy).
