Business Development Manager, Spurs & Feathers

POSITION DESCRIPTION:    The Business Development Manager will lead all day-to-day activities related to revenue for the Spurs & Feathers product.  This includes advertising sales efforts, general marketing and business development initiatives, and other revenue-generating programs under the Spurs & Feathers brand.  The Business Development Manager reports to the Publisher & Advertising Director of Free Times, the organization that oversees the Spurs & Feathers product.  This position includes a competitive base salary plus a generous commission package.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Day to day advertising sales and client interactions for Spurs & Feathers both the print edition and online platforms
    Continually prospect, develop sales pipeline and manage new business development
    Conduct needs analyses with current and prospective clients
    Maintain active account list, seeking upsell opportunities and ensuring strong customer satisfaction
    Collect and organize clients’ creative materials, working with in-house graphic designers to produce ads for publication
    Develop concepts for and execute with autonomy additional revenue-generating special projects, including but not limited to contests, events and sponsorship opportunities
    Monitor and take ownership of revenue and profitability of product
    Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual revenue goals established for product
    Serve as product knowledge champion for Spurs & Feathers, with an ability to coach other sales representatives on how to sell the product to advertising clients.
    Attend Gamecock Club, USC, and other fan or sports related events representing Spurs & Feathers as needed
    Develop and maintain partnerships with internal business partners: Spurs & Feathers editor and writer, graphic designers, circulation, operations and sales support to ensure production of publications are efficient, smooth and adhere to stated deadlines
    Additional duties as assigned by management

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

  • BS/BA in Marketing, Business or related field or equivalent work experience
    Requires a minimum of  three years’ experience in sales, marketing or business development
    Experience utilizing a CRM program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
    Ability to generate revenue streams and self-manage projects
    Must be a confident communicator and presenter
    Ability to relate well with clients and collaborate with co-workers.
    Strong interpersonal skills and the ability process workflows clearly.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    Strong analytic and fact-based decision-making skills
    Travel is required and must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license and auto insurance.
