POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Payroll/HR and Safety Coordinator provides professional support for human resources and risk management.  Work involves assisting with human resources and risk management functions which include, but not limited to employee relations, benefits administration, workers’ compensation, and property and liability claims and issues.  Utmost discretion and confidentiality in all job duties is required


  • Conducts new employee orientation and onboarding.  Provide information and policies, explanation of benefits and insurance
    Submit and obtain driving records (at time of hire and annual) and credit reports
    Schedule employees for hearing tests, physicals, and drug testing
    Complete verifications for current and termed employees
    Assists with Family Medical Leave administration, notifications to employees, and required record keeping
    Assist with Short and Long Term Disability
    Coordinate Open Enrollment (health and FSA) under the direction of Corporate
    Manage time card process and send insurance bi-weekly for payroll
    Liaison between Blue Cross Blue Shield and employees with questions and/or concerns
    File workers’ compensation claims
    Perform accident investigations, near misses and required logs
    Obtain Certificates of Insurance for Contractors and outside events
    Supervise custodian in general building clean-up and maintenance
    Order supplies for the building
    Cash out registers, prepare daily deposits, post office and bank daily
    Distribute mail and prepare scan deposits
    Coordinate safety programs (forklift, LOTO, HazCom) and be the liaison to Corporate risk control
    Update bizhub (copiers) meter readings monthly
    Attend quarterly safety meetings; meet with insurance inspectors as required
    Coordinate monthly department safety meetings
    Process and/or assist employee changes such as deductions, address, transfers, separations and direct deposits
    Maintain records of Retiree insurance payments
    Assist Production Director in keeping us OSHA compliant
    Acts as a counselor and facilitator on employee issues working with supervisors and managers
    Coordinate safety programs to increase employee engagement and morale

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

  • Associate’s degree plus additional coursework in business administration, office administration, or related field with one to two years experience in data processing or office administration; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
    Valid South Carolina driver’s license and proof of insurance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
    Excellent communication (both oral and written)
    Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner
    Eye for detail, accuracy is imperative
    Strong organization and prioritization skills with excellent follow through
    Ability to exercise independent judgment in order to handle a variety of duties
    Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and customer service skills
    Physical Requirement: Close eye work, continuous sitting, constant walking, standing, light to moderate lifting 15-20 pounds.
